What you
need to know about Pool Supplies
Now that you have a pool, you need to take care of it. So
you're going to need various pool supplies. There's a whole
range of products available, and you can pick a level
anywhere from the absolute basic minimum you need to get by,
right through to top level maintenance systems. Pool
supplies can also include items such as ladders, pool
covers, slides and so on, which can form part of your
swimming pool set-up.
Your first priority is keeping your pool clean. To do this,
you need to start with the pool water. For most people, a
simple oxidizer and sanitizer, like chlorine, is best. This
burns up organic material in the water, which helps keep the
water clean and also reduces the load on your pool filters.
It's important to check the pH balance and alkalinity levels
of your pool water, so it's wise to have a basic testing
kit. You can also check calcium hardness and stability. If
the testing kit shows any imbalance in the water, you can
fix the problem immediately.
You will also need to clean the interior walls and floor of
the swimming pool. You can do this manually with a swimming
pool vacuum system, but that can take a lot of time.
Nowadays there are plenty of really good automatic pool
cleaners available, and many are available at quite
reasonable prices. Although an automatic pool cleaner isn't
strictly necessary, it comes very close to being a necessary
luxury!
When you're buying a pump for your pool, make sure it's the
right size so that you don't waste a lot of energy. As a
rule of thumb, the pump should be able to pump the entire
capacity of your swimming pool in around eight hours. You
also need to think about the type of filter you want to use
- sand, D.E. and cartridge. These have different benefits,
so make sure you talk to an expert in swimming pool filters,
or spend some time online doing your research.
Warming your pool requires another round of pool supplies.
Nowadays pool heaters are much more dependable and durable
than they used to be, and are generally more energy
efficient too. You can even buy heaters with integrated pool
timers or freeze protectors.
It's also a good idea to have a cover for your pool. You may
just need a cover for winter, because the rest of the time
your pool is left uncovered. However if small children have
access to the pool, you may want to consider some form of
safety cover that is quick to put in place for use during
the rest of the year.
All up, your swimming pool can require a lot of pool
supplies to begin with, and for ongoing maintenance. But if
you take the time to choose wisely, you will have years of
enjoyment from your pool. |
